Columbia Winery is Washington State's first premium winery, founded in 1962 by ten friends, seven of whom were University of Washington professors.

In 1979, David Lake joined Columbia Winery. He became a Master of Wine in 1975, passing what is widely recognized as the world's most rigorous professional examination in the art and science of wine.

He was the first winemaker in the U.S. to have earned this distinction. Deemed "Dean of Washington Wine" by Wine Spectator, David Lake has earned a reputation for excellence in winemaking, as the man who pioneered single vineyard wines and introduced many European grape varieties to Washington State.

The Columbia vineyards are on the same latitude as the premium wine producing areas of France, although the wineries aim is to produce distinctive wines, not copies from other regions of the world. Columbia Winery uses only European vinifera style grapes grown in Eastern Washington.

With a reputation for producing fine award-winning wines, Columbia Winery boasts a wine selection second to none. Columbia offers dry whites such as Semillon and Pinot Gris as well as exceptional Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer.

David Lake also offers his Signature Series of exceptional wines from different vineyards in the state; Red Willow, Otis, Sagemoore and Wyckoff. These varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah.
